TV Talk: Broadcast networks mostly stick with game, competition shows in summer

The summer season broadcast Tv set season kicked off earlier this month with the return of “Holey Moley” and “The Chase” on Tuesday nights on ABC and carries on this week with Fox’s “So You Assume You Can Dance” — but there is continue to much more to appear.
On the other hand, if viewers want to see authentic scripted drama series, they’ll have to glance to cable and streaming. Aside from a drama-hefty crop on The CW (and “Fantasy Island” on Fox and Sunday night dramas on PBS), the broadcast networks are frequently plugging in decrease-price tag reality competitions and recreation displays.
ABC
“Generation Gap” (9 p.m. July 7, WTAE-Tv): Trivia game featuring groups of grandparents and grandchildren answering pop tradition questions from each and every other’s generations.
“The Last Straw” (9 p.m. July 10): Fundamentally a greater-than-daily life Jenga activity display.

“Tom Swift” (9 p.m. Could 31, WPCW-Television set): A “Nancy Drew” spin-off, this sci-fi-tinged drama follows the title character (Tian Richards), a charming homosexual tech inventor who likes to weld shirtless (would seem hazardous no matter how cut his stomach muscles are!). At minimum his father phone calls Tom on these foolishness before tragedy follows, leading Tom into intrigue involving a shadowy cabal while a likely appreciate triangle simmers. LeVar Burton voices Barclay, Tom’s Alexa-like digital assistant. The title character is a welcome departure, but the plotting is patented CW fare.
