Selena Gomez to release at-home cooking series this summer

Selena Gomez is to star in a new cooking series due to be released later this year.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, people across the world have had to acclimatise to spending an increased amount of time at home, which for some has meant having to get to grips with more home cooking.

In March, Gomez shared a photograph of herself cooking at home while in quarantine, showing her wearing grey sweats while cooking what appears to be a pasta dish alongside a selection of sides.

The singer is now putting her newfound culinary skills to good use by launching a 10-part cooking series on HBO Max this summer.

Announcing the news online, the streaming platform stated that the show will be unscripted and will feature the 27-year-old “as she navigates unfamiliar territory: making delicious meals while stuck at home in quarantine”.

“Since social distancing at home, Selena has been spending more time in the kitchen than she ever imagined. But despite her many talents, it remains to be seen if cooking is one of them,” Warner Media said in a press release.

“In each episode of this unapologetically authentic cookalong, Selena will be joined remotely by a different master chef. Together, they’ll tackle cuisines of every variety, share invaluable tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients.”

The media conglomerate added that each episode will be used to raise awareness for different food-focused charities and invite viewers to join in from their homes.

“We are so excited to have Selena Gomez in our first wave of programming on HBO Max and watch her adventures in the kitchen as she, like many of us, tries to improve her cooking skills during quarantine,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max.

Gomez stated that she has “always been very vocal” about her love of food.

“I think I’ve been asked hundreds of times in interviews if I had another career, what would I do and I’ve answered that it would be fun to be a chef.”

The musician added that she has no “formal training” in the kitchen.

“Like many of us while being home I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen,” she said.

In addition to her upcoming cooking series, Gomez also put together a list of songs she enjoys cooking to for a Spotify playlist.

The playlist, which is called “Cooking Together: Selena Gomez”, features songs including “Lonely Weekend” by Kacey Musgraves, “Lover” by Taylor Swift and “Adore You” by Harry Styles.
